- Městský fotbalový stadion Miroslava Valenty → Miroslav Valenta Municipal Football Stadium
- Městský stadion (Ostrava) → Municipal Stadium (Ostrava)
- Městský stadion (Karviná) → Municipal Stadium (Karviná)
– See WP:UE. No evidence that the current titles are used in English-language reliable sources. Per the policy, we "translate it if this can be done without loss of accuracy and with greater understanding for the English-speaking reader.'" 162 etc. (talk) 20:30, 28 October 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! - Oppose. They are official names of the stadiums and what is more important, they are commonly used in English-language sources (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). If I don't count the recent activity of specific users to change names without discussion, it is not even a practice on Wikipedia. FromCzech (talk) 05:10, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- The official name is not terribly relevant. Exactly what do you believe to be not even a practice on Wikipedia? Your seven examples may show usage which is relevant, but examples do not establish common usage. Andrewa (talk) 21:10, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Common practice = not to translate a name when it is commonly used in English sources – see for example Football venues in Germany, Football venues in France. The burden of proving that the suggested names are the most appropriate names is on the proposer. I just gave examples refuting his claim that the names are not used in English-language sources. According to the guideline WP:UE on the English Wikipedia, article titles should prioritize widely recognized English names, especially when available. Using English titles aids accessibility and comprehension, as English is the primary language of the platform, while languages with limited global reach, such as Czech, may be less understood by the general readership. In cases where an official English name does not exist, a direct and accurate translation into English should be used to best convey the meaning and context of the original name.Paradygmaty (talk) 22:28, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Support but suggest relisting to allow provision of evidence. The policy nom quotes is WP:UE but we should look at the context of the quote given... In deciding whether and how to translate a foreign name into English, follow English-language usage. If there is no established English-language treatment for a name, translate it if this can be done without loss of accuracy and with greater understanding for the English-speaking reader. (my emphasis) It's an important qualification, and as yet we have no evidence supporting it. Andrewa (talk) 21:18, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Support - translating the title seems in line with our policies as noted above, and will do a service to our readers. The accuracy of the translation needs to be considered. As for evidence, I'm not sure how it's going to be possible to prove that something doesn't exist.. but if anybody is willing to try they may as well. If it helps, going through several pages of google results appears to reinforce that English sources are not using the official name. (Searching for "Mestsky stadium" may be more productive: [1]) ASUKITE 15:24, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- I added four examples of English sources that use the name in my post, and I can add other: tribuna.com, eurosport.com. Per WP:UE, the choice between anglicized and local spellings should follow English-language usage and it this case the official name is commonly used, while the name proposed in RM is not used at all. For "service to our readers", redirects and/or translation of the name in the first sentence are used. FromCzech (talk) 10:56, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: To open more discussion about the apparent evidence that the "established English-language treatment for a name" is, in this case in fact, to leave the name untranslated. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (Goodbye!) 06:07, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
